Coach Hue Jackson assumes new role for the Bengals

Postby blazin1 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 9:31 am

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced today that coach Hue Jackson will assume a new role with the team.

In his second stint with the Bengals, he will serve as a special assistant and coach the Bengals running backs. As a successful assistant coach, head coach, mentor, and good citizen, this Examiner recognizes coach Hue Jackson’s contributions to the NFL for Black History Month.

After his first stint with the Bengals, he attracted the attention of Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders. They brought him in as the offensive coordinator and then promoted him to head coach.

In Jackson's lone season as the Raiders head coach, they finished in a three-way tie (8 wins) for first place with the Broncos and Chargers. The Raiders rewarded him by firing him. Unfortunately, the Raiders didn’t give Jackson a fair shot at the job. Few coaches, if any, could have turned the 2010 Raiders into Super Bowl contenders.

Anyone remember Jimmy Johnson, former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the 90s? In his first season with Dallas, he finished 1-15. Although he only won one game, he managed to win 2 Super Bowls as their head coach. Had Dallas owner Jerry Jones fired Johnson after only one season, Dallas may be short a few Super Bowl rings.

Not only does Jackson have experience as a successful offensive coach, he also has experience in the college coaching ranks. Credit Bengals owner Mike Brown and coach Marvin Lewis for bringing Jackson back to Cincinnati.

In Jackson’s two seasons with the Raiders, his running game finished second (2010) and seventh (2011) in the league. Jackson has also coached for the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons.

He also helped former Bengals Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh become two of the most successful Bengals receivers.

Bengals fans can expect the Bengals 2013 rushing game to improve under Jackson’s tutelage. Somewhere down the road, Hue Jackson should get another chance as a head coach.

That pretty much sums it up. So, Jackson, after going 8-8 with an injury plagued team, gets canned after just one season, yet DA is still in Oakland after going 4-12. Something smells very wrong in Oakland.

They should have just admitted they made a mistake hiring DA. The division is way to competitive to be messing around. KC, SD and the Donks seem to be getting better while the Raiders management keeps making stupid decisions.

Exactly, and since they failed to man up to an obvious mistake, they squandered an opportunity to get a real OC - what up and coming OC, or seasoned veteran who put in their time, would want to come to Oakland and work under a failed HC who was just a first year DC under a defensive-minded HC? Anyone? The Raiders season now rests in part on Olson, who apperantly was not any teams list of preferred OCs.

If next season is terrible as well they have to let DA go. Jon Gruden wants to coach again. I say they should do whatever it takes to get him back in Oakland. The town loved him and he loved being the Raiders HC. Too bad things ended the way they did but I bet Gruden & Rich Gannon would be on board to fix the team. Rich Gannon as QB coach/Asst. OC, Saunders or Hue Jackson as OC and Jon Gruden as HC. I think Jackson is the only one that would say no. He is probably still pissed off.

Actually, RM may be the biggest nay sayer - not Jackson. Gruden will likely want significant control over the roster and/or maybe even want Bruce Allen as GM. So far, RM seems to be the type of person that is driven more by pride than reason - again, his choice is still in Oakland after a terrible 4-12 season while Jackson was let go after going 8-8 with ridiculous injuries to key players, a new QB mid-season, and a shortened off-season.

Then ditch RM and bring back John Madden as GM. Let's get this done already.
