Raiders plan to cut Pryor on Monday if they can’t trade him

Terrelle Pryor
One way or another, Terrelle Pryor will no longer be an Oakland Raider by the close of business Monday.

That’s the word from Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, who reports that the Raiders will cut Pryor on Monday if they can’t trade him before then. That’s not a big surprise; it had already been clear that the Raiders have no plans for Pryor going forward, and that means it makes sense to send him packing before the start of the offseason training program.

It seems unlikely that anyone would trade for Pryor when the word is out that he’s about to be cut. Then again, he did show flashes of promise last season, and he’s only due a salary of $750,000 this year, so it’s possible that some team might think he’s worth a seventh-round pick.

Pryor is a phenomenal athlete who made some big plays last season, but those big plays were more with his feet than with his arm, and he still has a lot of work to do as a passer. If a team is willing to work with him as he develops, there’s still a chance that he’ll be a franchise quarterback. Just not in Oakland.

Goes to show you, no one wants him bad enough even for a late round pick or a bag of potatoes! The guy was a stretch coming out of college as he wasn't an impressive pocket passer at Ohio state.

Teams generally do not trade picks for a guy likely to be cut - to make such a trade, RM will ostensibly need to find a GM worse than himself. It appears there are none.

Excellently put. There aren't any worse GMs than him in any league on the planet, that includes bowling leagues.

Man, he has been in the NFL for 4 years and never seemed to improve his passing game. I doubt he will be a QB anywhere in the league unless he starts addressing his passing skills

Well, by all accounts he's a hard worker. If that's true, then it looks to me like he just doesn't have what it takes. I always said the guy's not a natural QB. Now we know for sure. He should have tried out other positions. He could have been the next Hines Ward. JMO.

2. Why not give Terrelle Pryor the chance to compete with Matt Schaub and Matt McGloin and whoever #Raiders draft?
Because the Raiders had made their evaluation and the coaching staff didn't see him becoming a starter again. I can't state enough how much his vision issues in the pocket, with his head moving back and forth, and his forgoing designed plays and progressions drove the coaches crazy.
Schaub is clearly the starter and McGloin the No. 2. Keeping Pryor around to make the occasional dazzling play to tempt and tease the fan base and owner didn't seem like a good idea to Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen.
