shuab restructures (tene)

Shuab has agreed to reduce his base salary, there you go tene...ypu finally happy my friend lol.
Say what you will about reggie (please do the jokes are funny) but he has pulled off easily our best offseason in the last decade.I rip him a lot for tons of things but the dude did have a vision and so far pulled it off and we haven't even drafted yet. I'll give credit to him for at least signing some key free agents when I first thought nobody wanted to come here.

This has been posted in several threads, but it appears that he only restructured his salary this year, thus maintaining the ridiculously high salary next and the following seasons. Perhaps, RM's plan is to draft a QB this season and then cut Schuab next.

No, overall, it still was not a good move. This just changed an absolutely terrible deal to just bad. What if the Raiders want Schuab next season?! Again, Schuab was going to be cut and there was no team which was going to offer Schuab anywhere near the type of contract that he still has minus one year. The Raiders could have simply out bid every team and still have garnered a better contract.

The numbers are in for the most recent players the Raiders signed so now we can update the Raiders available salary cap space.

First, Matt Schaub re-did his contract to bring his base salary down from $10.93 million to a reported $9 million. He had no guaranteed money but his entire base salary would have counted against the cap if he were on the roster come the regular season. He now carries a cap hit of $7.5 million according to reports.

Charles Woodson re-signed last week but his numbers took a while to come out. His new one-year deal has a $1.15 million base salary which is down from last season. However, his deal carries more guaranteed money due in part to a $1.15 million signing bonus. Toss in a $200k workout bonus and an additional $1 million in incentives and you have a nice even cap number of $3.5 million

What that means is the Raiders are currently $15.2 million under the salary cap.

Of course, the team must leave room for the rookie pool, which is now projected to count $3.4 million against the cap based on figures from Overthecap.com.

This leaves the Raiders with an estimated $11.8 million still left to spend in free agency.

Remember, the Raiders basically must spend as much as they possibly can because with the 72% they used last year, they must spend 95% over the next three years. Add to it the $9.3 million in dead money they carry this year - which doesn't count towards the salary floor - they are up against it spend all available cap money.

With free agency winding down, the remaining players are going to come relatively cheap. The team still has enough money to add several players as free agents. Another option would be to extend the contracts of some current players, using up the cap space that way.

Much, or at least a part, of Schuab's 9 million should have been used on either Velhdeer or Houston - or both. Instead, RM overpaid for a guy about to be cut and gave up a late round pick too. F'in brilliant. Bah.

Seriously? There is no place for either Velhdeer or Houston on the team?

There's nothing to get mixed up - they all essentially state the same shit. Some fools love it, other more rational people question the wisdom of taking on such a contract voluntarily as it were.

Honestly, while I accept that he was the best veteran QB available, I question the wisdom of it all - not sure his situation will be better in Oakland than it was in Texas. While that may be debatable, there is no (rational) question that RM way overpaid.

Are you implying that perhaps RM hasn't spent the first $50M in cap money effectively? Is that what you're implying?

Because you're right. And anyone could see it coming a mile away.
